A week after the huge success of Liver-Aid and it was back to The Olympia but this time for the return of the cage fighting championship, OMMAC. Some nice lighting for the walk ons of each fighter was particularly pleasing for me to get some nice drama but this was nothing compared to the drama going on in the cage itself.
Some closely fought battles had the crowd on their feet on several occasions with blood, sweat and controversy in the mix during the night.
The main fight of the night saw Lee ‘The Butcher’ Chadwick quickly see off Yvan Sorel from France, much to the delight of Lee’s supporters.
These are a selection of the pics from the night. For more photos of the night and to purchase non-watermarked versions for prints and downloads please visit here.
A great night of Liverpool music and entertainment for a very worthy cause at The Olympia last night. The event was for the Francesca Bimpson Foundation to bring families of serious crime together. Francesca was sadly killed in an horrific arson attack at the family home in December 2008 and it was great to see so many musicians and entertainers support the event.
Steve Riks started off proceedings with his Ringo impersonation and kept the crowd going between acts with a dazzling array of very funny impersonations (George Michael was particularly funny).
Numerous Liverpool bands and singers performed to including The Sums, The Real People, the totally Amazing Kappa, a trio of Ian’s (Prowse, McNabb and McCulloch) with Brian Nash doing a stunning rendition of the Power Of Love by his former band and Sad Cafe sandwiched between them.
Great night for a great cause. More information on the Foundation can be found here.
It was a mammoth 20 fight and not far off 6 hour show last night at The Olympia but the crowd were treated to blood (quite a lot of it), sweat and a prayer from one of the fighters as he entered the ring.
This was being filmed for showing on Loaded TV next Friday so the lights were nice and bright and plenty of interviews and analysis was taking place in front of the cameras which should all help to add to the event when it goes out.
Some great fights – well done to Lee Chadwick for winning the British Middleweight Title fight, Andrew Fisher for his British Featherweight Title win and also thoughts for Shay Walsh who had his jaw broken in his fight with Andrew.

I grew up with The Specials back in the 70s/early 80s and it was great to see the guys again at The Olympia (Neville was sadly missing through illness). I first saw The Specials in 2009 as part of Liverpool Music Week and they did a legendary gig that night. I suspect the one tonight may well go down as being equally as good.
The venue was packed out with a sea of Fred Perry polo shirts, mod haircuts and pork pie hats so it was a great nostalgia trip. The band sounded in top form (though I was glad to avoid the mike stand being thrown into the pit by Terry Hall a couple of times during Do The Dog.
Just prior to the gig I did a couple of cage fighter portraits for a new series and they’ll be appearing soon too.
Nice to have pics published in MMA Uncaged magazine this month of star Liverpool fighter Mike Wootten who is interview in the latest issue. Mike goes through the start of his fight career at 16, his training at MMA Academy and also how strong Liverpool is for MMA and boxing.
The featured photos came from the last OMMAC at The Olympia in March and more will be coming soon when the next OMMAC arrives at the beginning of June and who have just announced a new television deal on Loaded TV.
