Last week I met up with Kieran Farrell for a feature which is in the latest issue of Boxing News up in his home town of Heywood.
Despite being only 22 years old he had a fight record of 14 victories and no losses up until December last year. Just two weeks after the birth of his daughter Kieran fought Anthony Crolla in a fight that has changed his life. During the fight Kieran sustained injuries to his brain and was stretchered out at the end. His injuries have meant he can no longer fight – a devastating thing to have happened to someone so young.
However, Kieran has shown great strength and is now currently setting up his own gym (a few hundred yards from his house) with the help of his brother and has big plans for the future outside of the ring.
It was heart warming to see his positive attitude and next month he’s having a celebration on his career with an evening with Ricky Hatton and Jamie Moore. Good luck for the future Kieran.
Very nice to do some portraits of local DJ and Producer, James Kininmonth, for his website a couple of weeks ago.
James has released many records and mixes across the UK and Spain and is hard at work with his DJing and doing some teaching too.
More about him can be found here.
A couple of weeks ago (and to get my new blog started off) I put up a couple of pics I did just after the New Year with the lovely Emma Tipping (with the promise of more to come once allowed).
The photos were for a feature on Emma, the studio manager at Highfield Street Studios, for the ace Gladstone Magazine which has just come out today. Gladstone is a top read full of articles on music, tattoos and the burlesque world. There is also a spread with my cage fighter portraits in there too this month if you wish to peruse too.
We had a good trek over to Hilbre Island just off the West Kirby coast and despite being cold myself at least I had the pleasure of a coat (positively warm in comparison to what Emma was wearing).
To see more please go here.
Ace local mixed martial arts star, Paul Sass, is someone I’ve photographed on many occassions for magazines and the cage fighting at The Olympia and it was good to do more shots with him for Fighters Only magazine last year. A couple of years ago Paul got signed up for the UFC series and has been doing brilliantly in this.
These were done at the Kaobon gym in Wavertree and despite the packed surroundings (there was a full on gym session taking place whilst we did the shoot) we got the job done with the aid of some off camera flash to add some dramatic style.
And just to get things underway here are a couple of shots I did with the lovely Emma Tipping for the ace Gladstone magazine. Living in West Kirby there’s an ace set of islands called Hilbre which are about a 20 minute walk.
We did these a couple of days into January an certainly a great way to blow the New Year cobwebs off on a particularly dark and dismal day.
More pics to follow once they’ve been published.
